It has been shown that Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) develops in 35.5% of diabetic patients. This progression is variable, because it depends on demographic and clinical factors that reflect the metabolic control of the disease. There are risk factors such as: duration of diabetes, age, higher BMI, high HbA1c, HBP and smoking. Objective: Determine the risk factors in patients with diabetes mellitus 2 (DM2) and stage 3 CKD treated in the Nephrology Service of the Dr. Rafael Hernández L. Specialized Center. Method: Retrospective study where diabetic and non-diabetic patients were identified with CKD in stages 3a/3b according to GFR. The universe of the study was 80 records and the sample was 67 patients. Results: Using the KDIGO guidelines, it was found that 57% of diabetics and 35% of non-diabetics are at high risk for CKD. The main risk factors identified were HBP, dyslipidemia and age, followed by obesity and CVD. The majority of patients presented a cumulative of 4 or 5 risk factors, with a higher prevalence in CKD stage 3b. In non-diabetic patients, a predominance of stage 3b was observed based on 5 cumulative risk factors. Conclusions: The most prevalent risk factors are HBP, advanced age, dyslipidemia and obesity. This study highlights the relationship between these risk factors and CVD with CKD.
